1st Vanuatuan Paramedic is WA trained
Medic One took the needs of Vanuatu to heart when they offered a full sponsorship to Vanuatu Emergency Medical Services Association (VEMSA) and local Judy Willie. Judy’s training to a Diploma in Paramedical science has involved 2 trips over a year to complete her education with Medic One, and a month’s experience with the Victorian Ambulance Service. Judy now returns to the Port Vila community to provide a service supported by local staff.,reducing the dependence on international support for emergency medical care.
The Ambulance service provides pre-hospital care to the Port Vila community in the Republic of Vanuatu servicing approximately 30,000 people.
“I thank Medic One and the staff who have provided me with the confidence and knowledge to use all the items in the ambulance like spinal boards and to be able to help people that previously as a Nurse Aid I couldn’t”.” In the past we have only had international paramedics to operate the ambulance” said Judy Willie.
